It was established in October 1933 by Egyptian industrialists and was originally known as Misr Airwork. It started out with a single aircraft, a De Havilland DH.80 Puss Moth. In March 1946, it was renamed Misr Airlines after being purchased by Egyptian investors that included members of the royal family.
